The Political Future of the Shiites in Iraq.
Dhaw Center for Development and Democracy Support, in cooperation with the National Forum for Research on Thought and Culture in the Governorate of Najaf Al-Ashraf, organized a seminar entitled “The Political Future of the Shiites in Iraq.”
The seminar was attended by the veteran professor Dr. Abdul Amir Zahed and Professor Dr. Asaad Kazem Shabeeb, and was moderated by Professor Dr. Abdul Jabbar Abdullah Ahmed (President of the Center). The event was held at the Najaf Chamber of Commerce on the evening of Thursday, 18/12/2025.
During the seminar, the speakers discussed issues related to the political activity of Iraqi Shiites in the past, with a focus on the period following 2003 and the possible outcomes it may produce in the future. They also evaluated this experience by highlighting its positive aspects, represented by adherence to the democratic option, elections, and cooperation within alliances that represent the various segments of the Iraqi people; as well as its negative aspects, represented by corruption, weak future vision, and the failure to effectively engage with regional and international changes in a way that serves Iraq’s national interest.
The event was attended by a select group of academics, intellectuals, and thinkers from the Governorate of Najaf Al-Ashraf, who participated in the discussion, raised several questions, and called for organizing a series of similar seminars to provide comprehensive coverage of such topics and enrich them in a manner commensurate with their importance.
